Arab League Decries Israeli Attacks on Lebanon as Grave Escalation Scuttling De-escalation Efforts
Cairo, August 15 (QNA) - The Arab League has vigorously condemned the relentless Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon, which targeted civilians in Nabatieh and other contiguous villages and towns since dawn Saturday.
It termed the assault a flagrant breach of Lebanon's sovereignty and a grave escalation that threatens to impair all de-escalation efforts and end the occupation.
In a statement Saturday, the bloc pointed out that these Israeli policies and actions lay bare the nefarious Israeli intentions to drag out the confrontations, hamper the negotiations and impose a totally unacceptable new reality on the ground.
As such, the League warned of the situation plunging into wider confrontations unless the international community steps in, particularly the United States, to immediately halt the Israeli war machine. It demanded that Israel live up to UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
It likewise reiterated full solidarity with Lebanon, its people and state, in standing up to all assaults that target its security, stability, sovereignty and civilian peace. (QNA)
