Riyadh, August 14 (QNA) - Saudi Arabia strongly condemned and denounced today the targeting of two tankers belonging to the UAE's ADNOC while they were transiting the Strait of Hormuz, describing the incidents as an unacceptable recurrence of Iranian attacks targeting commercial ships and tankers.

In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Kingdom affirmed that the repeated attacks constituted a dangerous escalation and a direct threat to the security and safety of maritime navigation and global energy supplies.

It added that they represent a grave violation of international laws and norms and a blatant challenge to UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which affirmed the need to respect the rights and freedom of navigation of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz and condemned any measures or threats that could obstruct such navigation.

Saudi Arabia held Iran fully responsible for the consequences of continuing these attacks and called on it to immediately halt the violations and respect relevant international laws.

The Kingdom stressed that regional security and the safety of international navigation are a shared responsibility and that the continuation of such attacks cannot be accepted or tolerated.

The Kingdom also reiterated its full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates, affirming its support for the UAE and for the measures it takes to safeguard its sovereignty, security and resources. (QNA)
