Doha, August 13 (QNA) - The Ministry of Sports and Youth, in cooperation with the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), organized a youth session on the impact of sports on youth mental health, as part of the International Youth Day celebrations, observed annually on August 12 under this year's theme, "Different Contexts, Common Aspirations."
The session brought together young people interested in sports from various backgrounds and focused on how physical activity can reduce psychological stress, boost self-confidence, build resilience, and foster positive social relationships through an interactive discussion combining scientific perspectives and real-life experiences.
MSY's Director of the Youth Affairs Department Fawaz Al Mesaifri said this year's theme reflects the shared aspirations of young people worldwide to build a better future and enjoy balanced mental and physical health.
He noted that sports are an important tool for bringing youth together and supporting these common aspirations.
He added that the Ministry has launched initiatives addressing young people's needs and improving their quality of life, emphasizing that mental health is a key pillar of youth empowerment and that sports have become an effective means of promoting psychological balance and positive development.
QOC's Head of the Local Cooperation Unit Amina Al Meer said the partnership reflects a shared vision of sports as a tool for community development and improving quality of life. She highlighted the Committee's efforts to expand cooperation with national institutions, promote sports culture, and increase youth participation.
The strategic partnership aims to coordinate efforts and implement programs that support young people, raise awareness of mental health, encourage healthy lifestyles, and contribute to building a healthier and more cohesive society. (QNA)
