Islamabad, August 12 (QNA) - Pakistan emphasized Wednesday that it is committed to supporting freedom of maritime navigation and security in international waterways based on international law.
Speaking during a press briefing, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andarabi condemned the attack that targeted a commercial vessel in the Bab El Mandeb Strait in the Red Sea.
He pointed out that the information available to the government indicates that three Pakistanis were killed and another was wounded because of the attack.
Pakistani authorities have embarked on consultations to obtain further details about the incident and its circumstances, Andarabi said, stating that Islamabad is among the nations that signed the maritime alliance declared by Saudi Arabia.
Pakistan is ready to help all partners in this alliance implement what was outlined in the statement issued, Andarabi assured, affirming that this would help protect global supply chains and maritime traffic.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency reported Tuesday that an incident occurred off the coast of Al Mokha, Yemen, resulting in casualties, and advised vessels to transit the area with caution and report any suspicious activity. (QNA)
