Baghdad, August 12 (QNA) - Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al Zaidi reaffirmed Iraq's commitment to the agreed timeline to end the international coalition's military mission by Sep. 30 and complete the withdrawal of its forces.
Al Zaidi said Oct. 1 would mark a new phase for Iraq, with the country free of foreign military forces and increasingly capable of protecting its own security and stability.
He also stressed the importance of ensuring that all weapons remain under state control and called for greater focus on economic development, reconstruction and national stability.
During his meeting with US Central Command chief Charles Brad Cooper, both sides confirmed their final agreement to end the coalition's military mission. They said Iraqi-US relations would shift toward broader economic, development and security cooperation, based on mutual respect for sovereignty and shared interests.
The plan follows a 2024 agreement between Baghdad and Washington to gradually end the coalition's military role in Iraq and transition toward bilateral security partnerships. (QNA)
