World Cup 2026: Germany Dismiss Nagelsmann
Berlin, July 3 (QNA) - The German Football Association announced today that it has terminated the contract of national team head coach Julian Nagelsmann following Germany's early exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is being held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
In a statement published on its official website, the association said it had reached an agreement to end the contract of the 38-year-old coach after discussions with senior football officials in the country.
The statement added that Nagelsmann agreed to terminate his contract, which had been due to run until the summer of 2028. It also said the association would begin negotiations with Jurgen Klopp, who has indicated in principle that he is willing to take over the position.
Nagelsmann becomes only the second head coach in the history of the Germany national football team to be dismissed, following his predecessor Hansi Flick, whose tenure ended in 2023.
Germany was eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the Round of 32 after losing to the Paraguay national football team 4-3 in a penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw after regulation and extra time. (QNA)
