Magnitude 6.2 Earthquake Strikes Indonesia's Halmahera Island
Jakarta, July 03 (QNA) - A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck Indonesia's Halmahera Island on Friday, with no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said the earthquake occurred at a depth of 127 kilometers, about 58 kilometers west of Tobelo in North Maluku province.
Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) ruled out the possibility of a tsunami following the earthquake.
Indonesia is frequently affected by earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a zone of intense seismic and volcanic activity extending from Japan through Southeast Asia and across the Pacific Ocean. (QNA)
