Ankara, July 28 (QNA) - Istanbul will host the 49th session of UNESCO's World Heritage Committee from June 27 to July 7, 2027, Turkiye's Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement added that the decision was taken unanimously during the Committee's 48th session, currently being held in Busan, Republic of Korea.

It pointed out that hosting this upcoming event would significantly promote Turkiye's presence at UNESCO, along with its contributions to cultural diplomacy, in addition to showcasing the nation's cultural and natural heritage.

Turkiye's permanent delegate to UNESCO, Ambassador Mustafa Yurdakul, has assumed the presidency of the 49th session.

By and large, 22 sites in Turkiye are inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List. (QNA)
