Death Toll from Venezuela Quakes Rises to 5,119
Caracas, July 19 (QNA) Venezuelan authorities announced that the death toll from the two earthquakes that struck the country on June 24 has risen to 5,119, with 16,740 injured.
Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez said in a statement that the number of fatalities had reached 5,119, while the number of injured had reached 16,740.
He added that the death toll had increased by 50 over the past 24 hours, while the number of survivors rescued remained unchanged at 6,462.
Venezuela was struck on June 24 by two earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, approximately 40 seconds apart. This prompted authorities to declare a state of emergency, and several countries and international organizations rushed to send rescue teams and humanitarian aid to the country. (QNA)
