Brussels, July 13 (QNA) - The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the European Union (EU) underlined the need to intensify international efforts aimed at de-escalation as to protect regional security and stability.

The Council and the Union also stressed the significance of the security of, and the freedom of navigation in, the Strait of Hormuz, recognizing it as a vital international waterway essential for global economic stability and the uninterrupted flow of trade and energy supplies.

This came during the meeting that brought Secretary General of the GCC Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi together with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas, Monday.

The meeting explored ways to bolster the strategic relations between the GCC and the EU, alongside exchanging views on the ongoing escalation in the region and its resulting implications. (QNA)
