Hamid Al Awak Elected Speaker of Syria's People's Assembly
Damascus, July 13 (QNA) - Members of the Syrian People's Assembly on Sunday elected Abdel Hamid Aqil Al Awak as Speaker of the Assembly after securing 99 votes.
Three members had put themselves forward for the speakership, namely Abdel Hamid Aqil Al Awak, Moayad Hayel Al Qablawi, and Mohammad Ramez Korj.
President Ahmed Al Sharaa affirmed that the launch of this assembly marks a consequential national milestone, representing a quintessential step towards consolidating Shura and responsibility, in addition to building the nation's institutions based on dialogue, competence, and the rule of law.
The assembly convened today, attended by President Al Sharaa and Chairman of the Higher Committee for the People's Assembly Elections Mohammad Al Ahmad, alongside 206 members of the assembly and several other officials.
The members had already been sworn in and elected Al Awak as Speaker of the Assembly, Mustafa Moussa as First Deputy Speaker, Madonna Bishara as Second Deputy Speaker, and Moayad Habib as Secretary of the Assembly. (QNA)
