N. Korea Intends to Strengthen Nuclear Capabilities, Modernize Army
Pyongyang, July 10 (QNA) - North Korea plans to strengthen its nuclear capabilities both quantitatively and qualitatively as part of a broader effort to modernize its armed forces and enhance their combat readiness, according to the Korean Central News Agency.
The announcement was made during an expanded meeting of the Central Military Commission of the ruling Workers' Party, which approved a series of military measures, including strengthening the country's nuclear force and advancing plans to consolidate military bases.
The agency added that the measures include upgrading the technical infrastructure of combat systems and accelerating the construction of naval bases.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said the country's security and safety require a strong military capable of confronting all threats.
Earlier this month, the North Korean leader oversaw weapons tests involving the 5,000-ton naval destroyer Kang Kon and pledged to equip North Korea's navy with nuclear weapons.
Pyongyang has maintained that it is a nuclear state since the collapse of the 2019 summit in Hanoi between its leader and US President Donald Trump, which failed because of disagreements over the scope of nuclear disarmament and sanctions relief. (QNA)
