Rome, July 01 (QNA) - Foreign Minister of Italy Antonio Tajani said that his country is seeking to play a leading role in strengthening European defense.
Speaking to the Italian Chamber of Deputies, Tajani said that Italy is pursuing this role because of its geographical position, industrial expertise, and its continued commitment to peace and security in the strategic regions that matter most to Rome, from Sub-Saharan Africa to the Horn of Africa, from the Balkans to Lebanon, all the way to the Red Sea.
For this reason, Italy will reaffirm its commitment to defense spending during the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara, deeming this a courageous and necessary step to protect the freedom and security of Italians.
The 2026 NATO Summit in Ankara will run from Jul. 7 to 8. (QNA)
