Japan's Nikkei Index Records Best Quarterly Performance on Technology Rebound
Tokyo, June 30 (QNA) - Japan's Nikkei index rose on Tuesday, boosted by a rebound in technology stocks that helped the index achieve record quarterly gains.
The Nikkei 225 index climbed 0.86% to close at 70,062.32. During the April-June quarter, the index surged 37 percent, marking its strongest quarterly performance on record since 1965. The broader Topix index gained 0.73% to 4,010.88.
The Nikkei dipped during part of the session, and stock performance at the close was mixed, with 104 stocks rising and 121 declining.
Taiyo Yuden was the top percentage gainer on the index, surging 8.28%, followed by Furukawa Electric, which advanced 7.04%, and Screen Holdings, which climbed 6.20% to a record high.
The stocks that recorded the biggest losses were NEC, which fell 3.01%, Nitori Holdings, which dropped 2.74%, and Konica Minolta, which declined 2.31%. (QNA)
