FIFA 2026 World Cup: Morocco Qualify for Round of 16
Monterrey, June 30 (QNA) - Morocco qualified for the round of 16 of the FIFA 2026 World Cup after defeating the Netherlands 3-2 on penalties, following a 1-1 draw after extra time.
The game remained evenly matched until the 72nd minute when Cody Gakpo gave the Netherlands the lead. Morocco then snatched an equalizer in stoppage time through Issa Diop's header, forcing the match into extra time.
The score remained level through extra time, leading to a penalty shootout, which Morocco won 3-2, securing their place in the round of 16.
Morocco will be facing Canada in the round of 16 next Saturday, after the latter qualified at the expense of South Africa. (QNA)
