Saudi Football Chief Resigns After World Cup Group-Stage Exit
Riyadh, June 29 (QNA) - Saudi Arabian Football Federation president has resigned following the national team's elimination from the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Yasser Al Misehal said in a statement posted on X on Monday that his seven-year tenure as president of the federation had come to an end and that he was taking full responsibility for the disappointing campaign.
He thanked those who had worked with him during his time in office and pledged his continued support for Saudi football.
His resignation follows Saudi Arabia's early exit from the tournament after finishing bottom of Group H with two points. The team drew with Uruguay and Cape Verde before losing to Spain, failing to advance to the knockout stage.
Al Misehal had led the federation since 2019 and played a key role in Saudi Arabia's successful bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup. (QNA)
