Doha, June 28 (QNA) - The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) continues the implementation of Phase 3 of the Flood Prevention Program in North Doha areas, as part of the Remaining Roads and Infrastructure Project in North Doha.

The project is part of Ashghal's ongoing efforts to develop the infrastructure and enhance the readiness of rainwater drainage networks, contributing to improved quality of life and more efficient services for residents.

Eng. Abdullah Shams, Project Engineer at the Drainage Networks Projects Department, stated that the project aims to provide sustainable solutions to reduce rainwater accumulation and enhance readiness for the rainy season in North Doha areas.

The project covers approximately 51 rainwater accumulation spots across the municipalities of Doha, Al Daayen and Al Rayyan, serving several areas including Al Gharrafa, Onaiza, Al Tarfa, Old Al Rayyan, Al Dafna, Bin Omran and Al Kheesa.

Eng. Abdullah added that the project includes the construction of 50 km of rainwater drainage networks that will serve 51 identified accumulation spots, in addition to the development of a new pumping station in Onaiza and Al Tarfa. The works will provide a practical solution to flooding issues on roads and in residential areas, while maintaining smooth traffic flow and ensuring the continuity of services during rainfall events.

The project also includes several road and infrastructure improvement works, including the development of around 3 km of roads, installation of 100 street lighting poles, provision of 383 parking spaces, and construction of 1.5 km of treated sewage effluent (TSE) networks. These works will serve 1,555 residential and commercial units within the project areas.

Construction works are currently underway on the main pumping station in Onaiza and Al Tarfa, alongside the implementation of rainwater collection and drainage networks.

It is worth noting that local materials and manufacturers are being utilised in most of the project works, with the local content percentage targeted to reach 85% of the total materials used in the project. (QNA)
