YouTube Enhances Controls for Short-Form Videos
Washington, June 27 (QNA) - YouTube has officially announced the launch of new features and a broad update to the user interface of its short-form video service on mobile devices.
The move is aimed at reinventing the viewing and engagement experience by reducing visual distractions and meeting the growing preferences of users worldwide.
According to the platform, this update, which will begin rolling out gradually to all smartphones, focuses primarily on a fully immersive content experience through the introduction of "Clear Screen Mode", a feature that allows viewers to hide all buttons, icons, annotations, and overlapping channel names with a single tap, delivering a clean and uninterrupted view of the displayed clips.
The platform has also made a major change by completely removing the traditional "dislike" button from the main interface in order to reduce negative interactions.
It replaced the recommendation system with full reliance on more granular personalization options such as "Not interested" or "Block channel suggestions".
The classic like button (the thumbs-up icon) has also been redesigned into a red heart symbol to make engagement more dynamic, faster, and more aligned with competing platforms.
In addition, a playback speed doubling feature has been introduced, allowing users to instantly double playback speed of any short video to 2x by long-pressing the edge of the screen during playback, and returning to normal speed once the finger is released.
YouTube noted that these updates represent its most spellbinding redesign of the short-form video service since its launch, aimed at increasing in-app engagement time and improving overall user satisfaction. (QNA)
