Doha, June 24 (QNA) - The Public Works Authority 'Ashghal' has completed the development and refurbishment works of Al Asiri Souq and Faleh Souq in Central Doha.
This comes as part of its ongoing efforts to revitalize the heart of Doha and enhance its commercial and tourism facilities while preserving their authentic architectural character, according to Ashghal's statement.
The project aims to strengthen the area's visual and urban identity and further reinforce its position as a vibrant economic, commercial, and tourism destination.
The project included a comprehensive package of development and rehabilitation works, comprising the maintenance and restoration of existing architectural elements, modernization of shopfronts, enhancement of external finishes, organization and standardization of commercial signage, and upgrading of lighting systems.
The works also included cleaning and polishing flooring and marble surfaces, as well as rehabilitating shared public areas, contributing to the enhancement of the markets' aesthetic appeal and improving the overall experience for shoppers and visitors.
In addition, the project involved redesigning and upgrading the connecting streets and surrounding areas, improving accessibility and traffic flow, enhancing the urban landscape, and creating a more organized and attractive commercial environment.
Throughout the project, Ashghal focused on striking a balance between preserving the markets' distinctive architectural heritage and introducing modern improvements that align with Qatar's ongoing urban development, further reinforcing their status as prominent commercial landmarks within the urban fabric of Central Doha.
Ashghal also ensured that construction activities were implemented according to a carefully planned schedule that maintained business continuity and minimized disruption to shop owners and visitors throughout the execution period.
All works were carried out in accordance with the highest standards of quality and safety, utilizing specialized equipment and advanced techniques to ensure efficient delivery, the statement continued.
This project forms part of Ashghal's broader strategy to upgrade existing markets and public facilities, improve the urban environment, and preserve architectural heritage, thereby supporting sustainable development goals, enhancing quality of life, and increasing the attractiveness of cities and commercial centers across Qatar, it added.
The redevelopment is expected to further strengthen the position of Al Asiri and Faleh Markets as vibrant commercial destinations by providing a more modern and well-organized environment while preserving their authenticity and historical identity, which remain an integral part of Doha's urban memory.
