Riyadh, June 02 (QNA) - Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, stressed that the GCC nations vehemently denounce the relentless incursions into Al Aqsa Mosque by extremist settlers under the protection of Israeli police personnel.

Albudaiwi also decried the hoisting of the Israeli flag inside its courtyards, affirming that these provocative actions amount to an egregious violation of international law and resolutions of international legitimacy.

The GCC nations flatly reject all measures taken by the Israeli occupation forces to alter the historic and legal status quo in the city of Jerusalem and its Islamic holy sites, Albudaiwi underlined.

He warned that these unabated abuses would foment tension and instability in the region and shatter the chances of achieving peace.

Albudaiwi reemphasized that the GCC countries stand side by side with the brotherly Palestinian people and steadfastly support their legitimate rights, foremost among them the creation of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with resolutions of international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.
