Geneva, June 19 (QNA) - The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said that Palestinian children in Gaza continue to pay a heavy price despite the ceasefire, reporting that 265 children have been killed and more than 400 injured since the truce began in October 2025.
UNICEF spokesperson James Elder described the ceasefire as a cruel and deadly illusion for Palestinian children, saying the majority of child casualties resulted from Israeli airstrikes, drone attacks, and shelling.
The organization warned that many injured children require urgent specialized medical treatment and evacuation, while restrictions on essential medicines are worsening their condition and increasing the risk of infections and further complications.
Elder stressed that the continued deaths of children are not due to a lack of solutions, but rather a lack of political will to stop them.
According to medical sources in Gaza, the death toll from the ongoing conflict since October 2023 has reached 73,018 fatalities and 173,273 injuries, including 1,007 deaths and 3,165 injuries recorded since the ceasefire took effect in October 2025. (QNA)
