Rome, June 16 (QNA) - AC Milan announced on Tuesday the appointment of Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim as head coach of the club's first team on a two-year contract, with an option to extend.

In a statement published on its official website, the club said Amorim's appointment is part of a plan to return Milan to contention at the European level after the team failed to qualify for the 2026-27 UEFA Champions League, missing out on a berth following a defeat to Cagliari in its final Serie A match in May.

The statement said Amorim will succeed Massimiliano Allegri, who was dismissed from his position. It described the 41-year-old Portuguese coach as "the right choice" to lead the team, citing his status as one of Europe's most promising managers.

Milan finished fifth in Serie A last season with 70 points and will compete in the UEFA Europa League during the 2026-27 campaign. (QNA)
