Paris, June 16 (QNA) - Leaders of the Group of Seven agreed to intensify pressure on Russia to bring an end to the war in Ukraine, which has continued for more than four years.

Speaking after a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the French resort town of Évian-les-Bains, which hosted the G7 summit, US President Donald Trump said Russia must reach an agreement to end the war, noting that both sides had suffered heavy losses as the conflict continued.

He said the United States would soon be able to reimpose sanctions on Russian oil.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said all G7 members were united in their position toward Moscow.

He added that Ukraine had demonstrated its ability not only to defend itself but also to retake territory and inflict significant losses on Russia. Starmer said Britain was preparing a new package of sanctions against Moscow, including measures targeting liquefied natural gas tankers, in an effort to pressure Russia to halt its war against Kyiv.

The developments come amid an escalation in airstrikes and cross-border attacks between Moscow and Kyiv, as both sides seek to expand their military operations and strike targets inside each other's territory, while a political settlement to end the conflict remains elusive. (QNA)
