Zurich, June 14 (QNA) - FIFA announced on Sunday the appointment of a Qatari refereeing team to officiate the match between Portugal and the Democratic Republic of Congo, scheduled to be played on Wednesday at Houston Stadium in the opening round of Group K matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Qatari team consists of referee Abdulrahman Al Jassim and assistant referees Saud Ahmed and Taleb Salem Al Marri.
Group K comprises Portugal, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uzbekistan, and Colombia.
FIFA had earlier announced its list of match officials for the tournament, which included a strong Qatari presence, reaffirming international confidence in the competence of Qatari referees and their ability to officiate major global tournaments. The Qatari contingent also includes Khamis Al Marri, who was selected as a Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
The appointment reflects the advanced standing Qatari referees have attained on the international stage, particularly following their successful participation in continental and international competitions in recent years, which has further strengthened their experience and presence at major sporting events.
