Egypt Foreign Minister Discusses Regional Updates with UAE Counterpart, IAEA Director
Cairo, May 30 (QNA) - Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed regional developments and the progress of negotiations between the United States and Iran in two separate phone calls today with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated in a press release that the Egyptian and Emirati foreign ministers affirmed their shared commitment to further enhancing bilateral cooperation across various fields to meet the aspirations of both nations.
In the second call, the Egyptian Foreign Minister and the IAEA Director General discussed the latest developments in the US-Iran negotiations and the efforts underway to reach an agreement that addresses the concerns of all parties. Abdelatty stressed the need to intensify diplomatic efforts and support initiatives aimed at achieving mutually acceptable understandings between the US and Iran, thereby contributing to de-escalation and reducing tensions, and strengthening regional and international security and stability.
The two sides also discussed the results of the eleventh session of the Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, which was recently held in New York. The Egyptian Foreign Minister expressed his disappointment that the conference did not reach a consensus on a final document for the conference, stressing the continued validity of the outcomes of previous review conferences, foremost among them the resolution on the establishment of a zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East, which was adopted by the Extension and Review Conference of the Treaty in 1995.
