WHO Reports 906 Suspected Ebola Cases and 223 Deaths in Congo, Uganda
Geneva, May 29 (QNA) - The World Health Organization (WHO) said Friday that 906 suspected Ebola cases, including 223 deaths, have been reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo amid an ongoing outbreak of the Bundibugyo strain, with additional infections confirmed in Uganda.
A WHO official said the fatality rate among confirmed cases ranges between 30 and 50 percent, stressing that early medical care can help reduce deaths.
The organization confirmed 125 Ebola cases in Congo and seven in Uganda, including three linked to travelers arriving from Congo, with one reported death.
WHO also noted that there are currently no approved vaccines or treatments specifically targeting the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola. (QNA)
