Zurich, May 20 (QNA) - Switzerland coach Murat Yakin has named a 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with captain Granit Xhaka leading an experienced group for the tournament in North America.
The Swiss side will begin their campaign against Qatar national football team on June 13 in San Francisco, in a Group B that also includes Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Among the notable selections are defender Manuel Akanji, midfielder Denis Zakaria and forward Breel Embolo, while goalkeeper Gregor Kobel is expected to play a key role between the posts.
Switzerland will be making their seventh consecutive World Cup appearance since 2006 and have reached the last 16 in each of the previous three tournaments. Their most recent World Cup campaign ended in the round of 16 at Qatar 2022, following a heavy defeat by Portugal.
Qatar will continue their group-stage campaign against Canada in Vancouver on June 18 before facing Bosnia and Herzegovina in Seattle on June 24. (QNA)
