Brussels, May 02 (QNA) - Following the United States' decision to withdraw troops from Germany, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) affirmed that Europe must continue to invest more in defense and to take on a greater share of the responsibility for its shared security.
In its statement, NATO said, "We are working with the US to understand the details of their decision on force posture in Germany," a move that reflects rising tensions in transatlantic relations amid the war in the Middle East and differing positions on Iran and Ukraine.
The US Department of Defense (the Pentagon) had announced yesterday that the US will withdraw 5,000 of its troops stationed in Germany as part of NATO, a first sign of the fallout between US President, Donald Trump and German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz over the Iran war. (QNA)
