US Suspends Participation in Joint Defense Council with Canada
Washington, May 19 (QNA) - The United States announced today the suspension of its cooperation with Canada in a joint advisory body on defense affairs established 86 years ago.
Assistant Secretary of Defense Albridge Colby confirmed via 'X' platform that the Pentagon has suspended its participation with Canada in the Permanent Joint Defense Council, which was established in 1940.
Colby stated, "Unfortunately, Canada has failed to make credible progress on its defense commitments," adding, "We can no longer ignore the gap between rhetoric and reality."
The council was intended to include military and civilian representatives from the United States and Canada and was responsible for studying joint defense issues and providing policy recommendations to the two countries' governments. (QNA)
