OIC Warns Against Israeli Seizure of Historical Buildings and Palestinian Properties Around Al-Aqsa Mosque
Jeddah, May 18 (QNA) - The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) warned against Israeli occupation plans to seize a number of historical buildings, Palestinian properties, and Islamic endowments surrounding Al-Aqsa Mosque.
In a statement issued Monday, the OIC stated that the plans fall within broader Judaization policies aimed at imposing new demographic and geographic realities to alter the identity of the Old City of occupied Jerusalem.
The organization said such policies seek to undermine the historical and legal status of the holy sites and erase the Palestinian people's cultural, historical, and civilizational heritage in the city.
The OIC also condemned the Israeli occupation authorities' approval of a settlement plan to convert the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which was seized in occupied Jerusalem in violation of international law, into a museum and headquarters for the so-called Israeli Ministry of Defense.
The OIC General Secretariat stressed that the occupation has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem, describing the Israeli measures as an extension of racist policies, practices, and illegitimate legislation aimed at undermining the existence and role of UNRWA.
The organization renewed its call on the international community to take urgent action to compel the Israeli occupation to halt its ongoing violations and attacks against occupied Jerusalem, its residents, Islamic and Christian holy sites, and historical landmarks, and to ensure protection for United Nations agencies operating in the occupied Palestinian territories.
