Qatar Reads Launches Fables in Fashion Exhibition to Foster Reading Culture
Doha, May 17 (QNA) - Qatar Reads, an initiative under Qatar National Library, has launched the Fables in Fashion Art Exhibition to promote reading culture through interactive community programmes.
The exhibition, which runs until June 7, offers an artistic experience blending literature and design. It is launched as part of One Book, One Doha campaign organised by Qatar Reads, which brings community members together around a selected work from classical Arabic literature.
Held in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the Qatar Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center for Design, Fashion and Technology M7, the exhibition serves as a creative platform accompanying the Book of the Year programme, enabling artists and designers to translate literary themes into contemporary visual works that connect literature, art, and fashion through interactive and accessible formats.
The exhibition features a special showcase of eight fashion designs created by Qatari designers, each drawing inspiration from elements of Maqamat Al Hariri and reinterpreting them through a contemporary vision. The Maqamat are known for their rich narrative style, eloquent language, and vivid characters, making them a lasting source of inspiration.
Through these works, the exhibition highlights literature's ability to transcend the written word and become a vibrant visual experience. Designers reinterpret elements of the Maqamat through contemporary forms, materials, and designs that resonate with audiences and open new avenues for engaging with classical texts.
Manager of Qatar Reads initiative,Fatema Al Malki said the exhibition reflects the initiative’s belief that literature is not confined to the pages of books, but can be experienced, interpreted, and reimagined through diverse creative forms.
She added that drawing inspiration from Maqamat Al Hariri invites audiences to engage with classical Arabic literature through a contemporary approach that brings it closer to everyday life and gives it renewed presence and influence.
Al Malki also stressed that the exhibition highlights the enduring relevance of classical texts and their ability to inspire contemporary artistic expression and enrich cultural dialogue. (QNA)
