Occupied Jerusalem, May 17 (QNA) - The Jerusalem Governorate condemned the Israeli occupation government's approval of a settlement plan to establish a military museum and recruitment office on the site of the UNRWA compound in Sheikh Jarrah, describing the move as a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of international law.

In a statement issued Sunday, the Governorate argued the plan violates the Fourth Geneva Convention, which mandates that occupying powers protect public property and allow humanitarian organizations to operate unhindered. It also noted that the move breaches the 1946 Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations.

The statement asserted that Israeli occupation administrative decisions have no legal effect on UNRWA’s status or its presence in East Jerusalem, which remains occupied territory under UN resolutions.

The Governorate called on UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to refer the matter to the International Court of Justice if Israel does not rescind the measures and return seized property. It warned that a lack of international action encourages continued attacks on international institutions and the Palestinian people. (QNA)
