Doha, May 14 (QNA) - HE Minister of State and President of Qatar National Library (QNL), Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kawari, stated that the 35th Doha International Book Fair serves as a testament to the State of Qatar's cultural evolution and the vibrant intellectual dynamism currently spanning various fields.
In statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) during the fair's opening, HE Dr. Al Kawari noted that the continuous surge in cultural events and intellectual activities, despite regional challenges, underscores the stability and confidence inherent in Qatar's steady development process. He emphasized that the fair has secured its position as a premier cultural milestone within the Arab world, distinguishing itself annually through its sophisticated pavilion designs and the increasing diversity of publications, countries, and participating publishing houses.
Regarding QNL's involvement, Dr. Al Kawari highlighted the institution's prominent presence at the fair. He noted that although the library is relatively young, it has successfully solidified its status as a leading cultural hub, housing a collection of over 1.5 million books and hosting year-round educational events that significantly enrich the national cultural landscape.
In a similar statement to QNA, HE Saad bin Mohammed Al Rumaihi, a prominent Qatari media figure, commended the Ministry of Culture for its exceptional organization of the event. He noted that the fair reflects the high priority Qatar places on literature and the empowerment of intellectuals.
Al Rumaihi praised the continuous expansion of the fair's scale and the quality of its accompanying seminars, lectures, and exhibitions, which collectively foster a growing cultural movement and enhance social awareness.
He expressed his confidence that the 2024 edition will provide a rewarding experience for visitors, offering diverse knowledge and new horizons for cultural interaction.
The Doha International Book Fair, hosted at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC), runs until May 23 and features more than 520 publishing houses from 37 countries. (QNA)
