Qatar Begin GCC Games Handball Campaign with Win over UAE
Doha, May 14 (QNA) - Hosts Qatar made a strong start to their campaign at the 4th GCC Games Doha 2026 with a 28-20 victory over the United Arab Emirates in the men's handball competition on Thursday.
The Qatari side delivered an assured performance at the Al Duhail Sports Hall, underlining their credentials as contenders for the gold medal and continuing the country's strong record in regional handball competitions.
Qatar took control early in the match and maintained their advantage throughout, combining disciplined defending with quick attacking play to secure a comfortable opening win.
The hosts will next face Kuwait on Saturday in their second fixture of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Bahrain are scheduled to play Kuwait on Friday as the handball competition continues in Doha.
The Gulf Games bring together athletes from across the Gulf region in a range of sporting events hosted by Qatar. (QNA)
