Reporters Without Borders: Press Freedom Hits 25-Year Low
Paris, April 30 (QNA) - Reporters Without Borders warned Thursday that global press freedom has fallen to its lowest level in 25 years.
Using a five-tier scale from "good" to "very serious," the group said over half of countries are now classified as having a difficult or very serious press environment, up from 13.7 percent in 2002.
Its annual report noted that the share of the world's population living in countries with a good press climate has dropped from 20 percent in 2002 to under 1 percent.
The decline is driven by escalating armed conflicts and increasing restrictions on media in recent years. (QNA)
