Madagascar Thwarts Alleged Plot to Assassinate President
Antananarivo, April 03 (QNA) - Authorities in Madagascar have foiled an alleged assassination plot targeting President Col. Michael Randrianirina.
In a televised statement, Madagascar's Attorney General Narindra Navalona Rakotoniaina said preliminary investigations have led to the arrest of 13 individuals, 11 of whom are now in pre-trial detention on suspicion of involvement in the plot, along with related charges.
Rakotoniaina claimed that a military officer, Patrick Rakotomamonjy, is suspected to be one of the main planners and remains at large.
Randrianirina was sworn in as president last October after the island country had seen widespread protests over social conditions, which culminated in the removal of former President Andry Rajoelina. (QNA)
