Lebanese Minister of State for Administrative Reform Values Qatar's Diplomatic Role in Promoting Regional, International Stability
Beirut, April 29 (QNA) - Lebanese Minister of State for Administrative Reform Dr. Fadi Makki emphasized the importance of Qatar's role in mediation and conflict resolution in supporting regional and international stability.
In his remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Dr. Makki praised Qatar's significant support for Lebanon across various sectors, particularly in humanitarian and relief efforts, as well as its backing for the official Lebanese political stance calling for condemnation of and an end to Israeli aggression against Lebanon.
Over the years, Qatar has played a pivotal and active role diplomatically in mediation and conflict resolution, sponsoring numerous peace efforts in the region and beyond. This has accumulated valuable experience that can be utilized in managing current and future crises and conflicts, serving regional and international stability, he explained.
Regarding the situation in Lebanon, Dr. Makki affirmed that the Lebanese government insists on a comprehensive and complete ceasefire, an immediate halt to Israeli attacks, and an end to the systematic destruction of villages and towns before entering into any negotiations with Israel, whether direct or indirect. He added that Lebanon’s core principles in any negotiation process are safeguarding its territory and rejecting any infringement of national sovereignty.
Dr. Makki also stressed that Israeli deceleration of a so-called “yellow line” or “buffer zone” is entirely unacceptable, reaffirming Lebanon’s full sovereignty over its territory and the need for Israeli forces to withdraw completely from southern Lebanon.
He also stressed the importance of releasing the detainees, ensuring the return of the displaced to their villages and towns, and securing the necessary funding for reconstruction through international grants and aid.
In this context, Dr. Makki announced that Lebanon is preparing a comprehensive legal file documenting Israeli violations, with the aim of pursuing legal accountability and seeking compensation for all damages and losses.
He pointed out that engaging in any negotiations is not limited to addressing the current situation, but also preventing future violations and renewed aggression against Lebanon.
Dr. Makki revealed that the damage caused by the Israeli aggression, while not giving a specific figure at this stage, is estimated at billions of dollars. He indicated that a specialized ministerial committee is preparing the report and conducting precise assessments.
He explained that the losses cannot be measured in numbers alone, highlighting that more than 2,500 people have been killed and 7,800 injured, which are losses that cannot be compensated and must remain a top priority.
The Lebanese Minister of State for Administrative Reform stated that the damage affected more than 100,000 housing units, in addition to approximately 15 bridges, as well as a large number of vital facilities and hospitals. There are also indirect economic costs resulting from business losses and environmental and agricultural repercussions, placing a heavy economic burden on the state and society. (QNA)
