Brussels, April 28 (QNA) - European stocks closed mixed Tuesday as investors awaited Washington's response to Iran's peace proposal.

The Stoxx 600 index fell 0.3 percent to 606.99 points, with most sectors closing lower.

France's CAC 40 index dropped 0.46 percent, while Germany's DAX index declined 0.18 percent.

In contrast, Britain's FTSE 100 index closed 0.11 percent higher.

Shares of Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis (NVS) rose 0.7 percent after it reported quarterly profits of $4.9 billion, below analysts' expectations of $5.3 billion.

Shares of British energy company BP (BP) climbed 1.7 percent after its quarterly profits more than doubled, exceeding expectations.

In contrast, shares in Barclays Bank (BCS) fell 0.3% after it incurred £200 million in credit losses related to its exposure to the property sector. (QNA)
