Jakarta, April 24 (QNA) - Indonesia has renewed its call for the United Nations to conduct an immediate, thorough, and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack that killed one of its soldiers serving with the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL) in Lebanon, stressing the need to ensure full accountability for the incident.

In a statement released Friday on its X account, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the Israeli attack that killed a fourth Indonesian peacekeeper in southern Lebanon.

The soldier was critically wounded by artillery fire attributed to an Israeli tank before succumbing to his injuries on Friday.

The statement also noted that three other Indonesian soldiers were killed in the same attack.

The Ministry affirmed that the safety and security of UN peacekeepers is non-negotiable, noting that the Indonesian government continues to coordinate with the UN and troop- and police-contributing countries to enhance the protection of peacekeepers, including conducting a comprehensive safety and security assessment, as well as strengthening risk reduction measures in the UNIFIL area of operations.

Indonesia also urged the UN to launch a thorough and transparent investigation into the deaths of its soldiers serving with the international force, stressing the importance of uncovering the full facts and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.

Earlier Friday, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) announced the death of one of its members from injuries sustained on March 29.

UNIFIL explained that one of its peacekeepers, an Indonesian national, died from serious injuries sustained when a projectile exploded inside its base in Adshit, southern Lebanon. (QNA)
