Bangkok, April 13 (QNA) - The Qatari beach volleyball team, comprised of Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan (Team Qatar 1), qualified for the Round of 16 of the Asian Open Tour - Samila Tour, which began yesterday (Sunday) in Thailand and set to run through Wednesday, with the participation of 27 teams representing 15 countries.

Team Qatar (1) secured their spot after defeating Hong Kong (1) in straight sets (21-7, 21-8) in their match Monday, within the second group of the tournament. This victory puts them at the top of their group with a perfect record of 6 points, following their win yesterday against Oman, who finished second with 5 points. Hong Kong (1) was eliminated from the tournament after finishing third.

With this win, the Qatari team will face China in the next round tomorrow (Tuesday), aiming for victory and qualifying for the quarterfinals.

For their part, the Qatari team (2), comprised of Mohamed Ehab and Moussa Al Khair, lost to Hong Kong (2) in Group A by a score of one set to two (19-21, 7-15). They also lost their second match against Thailand (1) in straight sets (12-21, 16-21), thus exiting the tournament.

The Qatari team's participation is part of a comprehensive preparatory program extending beyond the tournament.

They will hold a training camp in Thailand from April 16 to 19 in preparation for the Asian Beach Games "Sanya," scheduled to take place in China from April 22nd to 30th.(QNA)
