Beirut, April 13 (QNA) - President of Lebanon Joseph Aoun held talks on Monday with Foreign Minister of Italy Antonio Tajani, who is visiting Beirut, to discuss developments in Lebanon amid the ongoing Israeli offensive, as well as upcoming talks scheduled in Washington tomorrow between Lebanese, US, and Israeli delegations.

During the meeting, President Aoun expressed hope that the Washington talks would lead to an agreement on a ceasefire as a prelude to direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, describing it as an opportunity to reach a sustainable solution.

He stressed that Israel’s destruction of Lebanese areas and targeting of public and private institutions is not a solution and will not achieve results, reaffirming that diplomatic solutions have always been the best path for resolving armed conflicts.

For his part, Italian Foreign Minister expressed Italy's solidarity with Lebanon, stressing the need to achieve a ceasefire outcome from the Washington talks. He also reiterated Italy's readiness to host any future negotiations between Lebanon and Israel to reach stability and peace, reaffirming continued Italian support for Lebanon. (QNA)
