US, Iran to Hold New Round of Talks Sunday
Islamabad, April 12 (QNA) - Media reports said that peace talks between the United States and Iran in Pakistan are set to resume later today, Sunday, following an intensive round of negotiations that lasted around 15 hours.
The reports noted that the first round of talks concluded after lengthy discussions between the two sides, with a new round scheduled to continue addressing outstanding issues.
Iran's Tasnim News Agency said that the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most contentious points between the two delegations, amid differing positions on several security and strategic matters.
It added that the talks were continuing despite what were described as excessive US demands. The Iranian side for its part remained firm in rejecting those demands, reflecting a difficult path ahead for negotiations.
Meanwhile a Pakistani diplomatic source said that Islamabad has proposed a plan to regulate navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, including joint patrols to ensure the security of the maritime passage.
The source added that the parties concerned agreed to hold a new round of negotiations today, Sunday, based on the Pakistani proposal, in an effort to advance de-escalation efforts and enhance stability in the region. (QNA)
