Islamabad, April 12 (QNA) - Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaqآ Darآ stressed Sunday that his country will continue to play its role to facilitate engagement and dialogue between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America in the days to come.

In a statement published by the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the top diplomat in Pakistan said the delegation of the United States of America and the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran arrived yesterday in Islamabad to participate in Islamabad Talks. He explained that he, along with the Chief of Defense Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, helped mediate several rounds of intense and constructive negotiations between the two sides, that continued through the last 24 hours and ended this morning.

He expressed hope that the two sides would continue with the positive spirit to achieve durable peace and prosperity for the entire region and beyond, emphasizing the importance of the parties continuing to uphold their commitment to ceasefire.

In this context, the Iranian Tasnim News Agency reported, quoting Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei, following the conclusion of the Iranian-American negotiations, that the two sides reached an understanding on a series of issues. However, there remained a gap in views on two to three important matters, and ultimately the talks did not lead to an agreement.

He added that the path of diplomacy has not been closed, and it remains a permanent means of safeguarding our national interests. (QNA)
