Years of Culture Initiative Celebrates 100 Days of Qatar-Canada-Mexico 2026 Year of Culture
Doha, April 10 (QNA) - To mark 100 days of the Qatar-Canada-Mexico 2026 Year of Culture, the Years of Culture initiative of Qatar Museums has highlighted the contribution of Qatar’s partnership with Canada and Mexico in promoting sustainable cultural dialogue and establishing a world based on discovery, understanding, and building human connections.
During a celebration marking the occasion, Advisor to the Years of Culture Initiative for Latin America and former Qatari Ambassador to Mexico, HE Mohammed Al Kuwari said: "The commitment to fostering mutual understanding becomes even more important in light of the conflicts the world is witnessing today."
He added that "such events offer a different answer to an age-old question that keeps resurfacing: how can we continue to live together in a world where everything seems to be pushing us apart?"
He also noted that the programs held within the Qatar-Canada-Mexico 2026 Year of Culture invite people to see the world from the perspective of others and explore aspects of themselves.
For his part, HE Karim Morcos, the Canadian Ambassador to the State of Qatar, noted in his remarks that cultural ties are more important than ever in these challenging times of global uncertainty and conflict, adding that "culture reminds us of what unites us, from cuisine and the arts to the simplest forms of connection."
In a statement, the initiative affirmed that during its first 100 days, building upon events such as Art Basel Qatar and the Qatar International Food Festival, where chefs and artists from Canada and Mexico showcased their culinary traditions in Doha, a foundation for understanding began to take shape through experiences that combined cooking with interaction in public spaces.
The initiative also expressed its anticipation of future projects in photography, sports, and design, drawing on the legacy of Qatar's hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
In a related context, Canada and Mexico continue to invest in creating genuine spaces for cultural exchange, making them active partners in the 2026 Year of Culture.
Through this partnership, the three countries (Qatar, Canada, and Mexico) reaffirm that culture remains capable of bridging distances between peoples. (QNA)
