Patient Walks Again After Advanced Spinal Surgery in Qatar
Doha, April 01 (QNA) - Orthopedists at a Hamad Medical Corporation hospital have performed a pioneering microscopic spinal surgery to treat a patient with spinal stenosis.
The highly delicate procedure, carried out at Aisha Bint Hamad Al Attiya Hospital, is the first of its kind in the facility and was previously performed only at Hamad General Hospital due to its complexity and the need for specialized expertise and equipment.
Surgeons used a C-arm imaging device to guide the procedure with a microscope, enabling precise identification of affected vertebrae and relieving pressure on the nerves without large incisions or compromising spinal stability. This approach accelerates recovery and reduces surgical risks.
Just days after the operation, the 56-year-old patient began regaining the ability to walk gradually, with significant improvements in pain and leg function. She is now undergoing a rehabilitation program to strengthen back muscles and enhance spinal stability.
The successful operation paves the way for more advanced and complex surgeries at the hospital in the future, potentially reducing patient waiting times and providing specialized care to residents of northern regions.
The orthopedics department, opened last year, includes a team of highly skilled surgeons and consultants and offers advanced diagnostic and treatment services using the latest surgical and imaging technologies. (QNA)
