Cairo, March 08 (QNA) - Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, has called on Iran to review its policies and rectify the massive strategic mistake it became involved in by attacking Arab nations. He stressed the importance of an immediate and actual halt to its attacks against Arab nations.

This came in his remarks before the extraordinary session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level, which was virtually convened today on the Iranian assaults on the territories of some Arab nations.

Aboul Gheit called on the international community, represented by the UN Security Council, to act by all means to stop the Iranian attacks on the Arab nations, urging all parties to immediately return to the logic of dialogue and diplomacy to address the pending issues.

Today, a clear message is relayed to all in the region and the world: that Arab nations speak with one language and circle the wagons in condemning and pushing back on any assault on any Arab country, whether it breaks its sovereignty, imperils its territorial integrity, or violates its airspace, Aboul Gheit underlined.

He added that these assaults are condemned and rejected by all Arabs and governments alike, stressing that these attacks did not take into account the tenets of good neighborliness and violated international laws and charters in a dangerous and brazen way by targeting civilians and civilian establishments.

These assaults represent a threat to the entirety of Arab national security, as there are no justifications for undertaking these attacks under any circumstance, since they lay bare a reckless policy that annihilates the core principles of good neighborliness, Aboul Gheit cautioned.

Aboul Gheit further noted that Arab nations are not parties to the ongoing war, did not want its flare-up, and had previously declared their rejection of using their lands and airspace as launchpads for these military operations. He indicated that some Arab nations, primarily Oman, alongside Egypt and Qatar, had substantially contributed to diligent and assiduous efforts to spare the entire region, including Iran, from the scourges of the ongoing war.

Arab nations never anticipated that the response to adherence to the tenets of good neighborliness and genuine diplomatic efforts would be the treacherous missiles and drones targeting structures and humans, Aboul Gheit stated.

He stressed that there is no doubt that this unprovoked Iranian belligerence lays bare confusion in judgment, further increases Iran’s isolation in this tough and delicate moment, and even leaves negative implications that could compromise the relationship between Iran and its Arab neighbors.

Aboul Gheit recalled that amid all the violence and escalation playing out in the region, the opportunity for diplomacy still exists and is available if everyone returns to the calculations of reason and rationality.

He called on all parties to immediately return to the logic of dialogue and diplomacy to address the outstanding problems and issues, rather than slipping into paths from which no party will be safe from their serious implications. (QNA)
