US Eases Select Sanctions on Belarus Firms
Washington, March 26 (QNA) - The US administration of Donald Trump announced a partial easing of restrictions on several financial institutions and potash-related companies linked to Belarus.
The US Treasury Department Office of Foreign Assets Control issued a general license permitting certain transactions with previously sanctioned entities, including the Development Bank of Belarus and Belinvest-Engineering, as well as major fertilizer producers such as Belaruskali.
The move does not unfreeze assets tied to these entities, and broader sanctions remain in place.
Trump said the policy shift forms part of a broader package aimed at supporting US farmers, amid supply disruptions linked to regional tensions affecting fertilizer exports.
Earlier this month, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko met with US envoy John Cole in Minsk, and ordered the release of 250 political prisoners under an arrangement tied to limited sanctions relief. (QNA)
