Al Shaqab Equestrian Cup Competitions Continue for Third Day
Doha, March 27 (QNA) - The Al Shaqab Equestrian Cup competitions continued Friday at the Longines Arena in Al Shaqab (a member of Qatar Foundation) with three classes in the one-star, three-star, and five-star categories, with jumps ranging from 110 cm to 155 cm. More than 150 riders participated, competing for a total prize purse of EURO 784,000.
The third day of competition began with the one-star class at a height of 110 cm, where Qatari rider Abdulaziz bin Jassim Al-Thani secured first place with a time of 29.89 seconds on the horse "Proud." Abdullah Ahmed Al Khulaifi followed in second place with a time of 30.02 seconds on the horse "Quinta," while Saudi rider Hala Al Rashid came in third with a time of 32.39 seconds on the horse "Crossing."
In the three-star class at a height of 135 cm, Frenchman Jean-François Rondot took first place with a time of 27.28 seconds on the horse "Inter Larousse." Sheikh Fahad bin Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani came in second with a time of 28.81 seconds on the horse "Lavistere," while Saad Ahmed Al Saad finished third with a time of 29.22 seconds on the horse "Gary de Cressy."
The five-star class at a height of 155 cm, held in a jump-off format, witnessed fierce competition, where Austrian Gerfried Backe claimed first place with a time of 39.05 seconds on the horse "Equateron." Syrian Mohammed Mughith came in second with a time of 40.67 seconds on the horse "Carlotto," while Kuwaiti Ali Al Kharafi finished third with a time of 41.43 seconds on the horse "A."
The second day of competition, held yesterday (Thursday) saw Qatari Rider Sultan Salem Al Nuaimi crowned champion in the three-star class at a height of 140 cm. South African rider Matthew Morrison came in second, and Kuwaiti rider Yara Al Hunaidi finished third.
In the 130 cm class of the same category, Sultan Salem Al Nuaimi again secured first place, followed by Saudi rider Khalid Al Hadi in second, and American rider Christine Vanderveen in third.
In the one-star class at a height of 125 cm, Qatari rider Ibrahim Khalid Al Kuwari took first place, with Saudi rider Khalid Al Hadi in second, and Salem Balharith in third.
The championship competitions are scheduled to continue on Saturday, with seven classes across the one-star, three-star, and four-star categories, with heights ranging from 115 cm to 150 cm.
These classes will be held at the Longines indoor and outdoor arenas in Al Shaqab. (QNA)
