Egyptian FM Discusses De-escalation Efforts with Counterparts and US Official
Cairo, March 22 (QNA) - Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed the evolving situation in the Middle East and efforts to de-escalate tensions and end the conflict in telephone calls today with his counterparts and a US official.
In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated that the calls included Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, and US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff.
Focusing on the military escalation in the region and its serious repercussions for regional security and stability, the discussions also addressed the importance of working to contain its far-reaching effects and prevent the conflict from spreading further in light of the mutual threats and the targeting of civilian facilities and infrastructure, the statement said.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister stressed the importance of restraint and wisdom at this delicate stage, ensuring the security of maritime navigation and not obstructing it in any way, in light of its regional and international economic repercussions and its impact on trade, supply chains, and oil and food prices. He reiterated Egypt's position supporting the security of the Gulf and its categorical rejection of any aggression against the Gulf states, considering that the security of the Gulf is directly linked to Egyptian national security and regional security.
