Doha, March 21 (QNA) – The Ministry of Interior (MoI) emphasized the importance of adhering to regulations governing the sound levels emitted by vehicles, as part of its efforts to enhance public safety and preserve community tranquility.

In a statement issued Saturday, the Ministry noted that all cars and motorcycles are treated equally in the application of sound level regulations, without any distinction between categories. Compliance is based on the actual measurement of sound levels using approved technical devices.

It pointed out that the maximum permissible sound level must not exceed 79 decibels (dB), in accordance with the technical standards approved by the Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology.

These standards take into account vehicle classification and type, and measurements are conducted using approved technical equipment, including handheld measuring devices and specialized radars for detecting sound levels, as well as passing the technical inspection (Fahes).

The Ministry affirmed that high-performance (sports) vehicles are subject to the same approved sound regulations, and differences in the nature of their sound do not justify exceeding the specified limit.

The sound emitted must remain within the approved limits in accordance with the standards.

It also stressed that exceeding the limit or any modification to the vehicle, such as tampering with the exhaust system, removing the muffler, or carrying out programming that amplifies or intentionally increases the sound, constitutes a clear violation that warrants legal action, regardless of the type or category of the vehicle.

It stressed that vehicles received from authorized dealers must conform to the approved technical specifications, and if it is proven that the sound level exceeds the approved limit, the vehicle owner must contact the dealer to carry out the necessary technical treatment, in order to ensure its compliance with the applicable requirements.

It added that these regulations are implemented in line with Circular No. (3) of 2023 issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry regarding noise pollution caused by vehicles and motorcycles, which enhances coordination among relevant authorities and ensures unified procedures.

In conclusion, the Ministry of Interior called on everyone to adhere to laws and regulations in a way that promotes public safety and preserves community peace. (QNA)
